In response to a lack of media coverage on the north of England, we put together this awards list to celebrate various young people from the north and the wider potential of the north which they represent.
Our Brief
From footballers to financial moguls and creatives, the north of England is home to some of the most successful ‘up and coming’ millennials making an impact and trailblazing in a number of industries; yet attention is often focused on London. With, #NORTH30, we are changing that. #NORTH30 is an awards list created to celebrate the achievements of outliers under the age of 30 who are changing the game in the north of England and deserve to be championed for their great work. Our most recent edition was in 2019, sponsored by KIND BARS as well as our event venue Evelyns Bar and Cafe.
Our Event
After collecting public nominations, a media campaign and our own research to find the very best that the north had to offer, we were able to put together a power-list of 30 trailblazers, who encapsulate the diversity, innovation and potential to be found in the north. All of this work was collated into a #NORTH30 report (you can read this below) which allowed the public to gain insight into the work of our winners and hear stories which may not have received a platform in the mainstream media.
To champion our award-winners, we ran an event and invited them all as well as a wide variety of guests and our Common Sense staff. The day started off with a networking session, whereby attendees were given a chance to get a drink and network with fellow attendees, a great opportunity to meet some new and old faces! Afterwards, those in attendance took their seats as North 30 took centre stage with Mike Omoniyi, TCS’ Editor-In-Chief, starting off the event discussing Common Sense and why we chose to run #NORTH30 as well as our work in Manchester. This was followed by a host of introductory speakers, which led us onto the awards ceremony, with many candidates being commemorated for their huge success within their respective segments.
